The credential, Retired Certified Heart Failure Nurse (CHFN-Retired) is intended for those who are retiring from HF nursing.  This credential would allow nurses who want to stay involved with what is going on in heart failure nursing (i.e. membership, annual meetings, etc.) however are no longer practicing in heart failure.  This could be because the CHFN is retiring from nursing altogether, or perhaps their career path is taking the nurse in a different direction outside of heart failure.

The requirement is that the CHFN is:

• Retiring and will no longer practice in the heart failure specialty.
• Will be permitted to use the credential CHFN-Retired.
• Decides to reenter the workforce after obtaining retired status and would like to reactivate certification in the heart failure specialty, she/he must meet all certification renewal eligibility requirements and follow the AAHFN-CB processes in place at that time.
• Cannot use the word “Retired” on the following: patient charts or records, legal documents, or after my signature. The CHFN –Retired individual may not use these credentials in a professional workplace in which an institutional badge would be issued.  The CHFN-Retired would be allowed to identify themselves with these credentials at conferences, symposiums and other learning events (e.g. Annual Heart Failure Conference).
• Complete the retirement application and pay the one time fee.
