Purpose Statement

The purpose of this activity is to provide more information about new medications for heart failure patients, what not to give, polypharmacy, and algorithms to titrate.

Learner Outcomes

  • Understand the pathophysiology of sleep disorders and differentiate the two types of sleep-disordered breathing
  • Discuss the importance of why nurses need to develop and utilize astute clinical assessment skills to identify undiagnosed or under-treated sleep disordered breathing.
  • Discuss the nursing assessment findings associated with undiagnosed or under-treated sleep disordered breathing.
  •  Describe the causes and discuss the diagnosis and treatment of obstructive sleep apnea
  • Discuss the insomnia and its impact on HF patients
  •  Discuss the cyclical pattern HF symptoms and poor sleep
